Afgelopen woensdag pakte ik om 06:30 (!) het vliegtuig richting Barcelona met als eindbestemming Mallorca. Uitgenodigd door FitBit stonden er twee dagen vol sportieve activiteiten op me te wachten én de lancering van een wel heel speciale nieuwe gadget: de FitBit Ionic! Inmiddels 4 FitBits en heel wat multi sport horloges verder denk ik dat ik genoeg ervaring en feels heb bemachtigd om jullie een eerlijke, informatieve review over de nieuwste smart watch (en FitBit’s eerste officiële smart watch!) van de markt te geven. Keep reading!
Looks
Op het eerste gezicht ziet de FitBit Ionic er prachtig uit; een strak design met een vierkant aanraakgevoelig scherm en een aluminium behuizing. Zoals we van FitBit gewend zijn is het ook met de FitBit Ionic mogelijk om de rubberband om te wisselen voor een meer sporty band of juist een classy leren bandje. Er zitten in totaal 3 knoppen op (1 links van het scherm, 2 rechts) wat het horloge gebruiksvriendelijk maakt. In vergelijking met de twee concurrenten (Apple watch series 3 & Garmin Vivoactive 3) heeft de FitBit Ionic, naar mijn mening, het beste design tot nu toe. Het scherm heeft een geweldige resolutie van 348×250 pixels (Al wint Apple met 390×312 pixels, Garmin komt laatste met 240x240pixels). Wel zou ik de voorkeur geven aan meer kleurenopties, maar ik ben er zeker van dat er met de komst van de Ionic meer keuze in de bandjes zal volgen.
Sport
Bij de FitBit Ionic zien we een grote verbetering met voorgaande horloges op vrijwel elk gebied: De hartslagmeter is verbeterd en werkt accurater, bewegingen worden beter herkend en er is een sensor om het zuurstofniveau in je lichaam te meten. Daarnaast is het niet meer nodig om je telefoon mee te nemen tijdens je workouts: Omdat de Ionic gps heeft ingebouwd kun je ermee sporten zonder een telefoon op zak te hebben.
De FitBit Ionic heeft 7 sport-opties: Run, Bike, Swim, Treadmill, Weight, Interval timer & Workout. Je leest het goed: je kunt zwemmen met dit horloge. En douchen. En badderen. Hoe tof! Mijn FitBit Alta HR heeft redelijk wat keren per ongeluk een douche meegepakt (hij heeft het overigens wel overleefd) en het blijft bizar dat je met dit horloge gewoon het water in kunt. Voor openwater zwemmen trackt hij automatisch de meters gezwommen, zwem je in een zwembad dan herkent de Ionic na één of twee baantjes de afstand van elk baantje en trackt hij zo de afstand en snelheid. Nog een pluspunt: ongeacht de workout die je doet, weet het horloge precies wanneer je stilstaat waardoor hij automatisch pauzeert. Hoef je je nooit meer druk te maken om je schoenveter of het rode stoplicht.
Relax
Net zoals bij de vorige FitBits, bevat het horloge een speciale relax modus. Via deze app kun je korte ademhalingsoefeningen volgen waarbij je precies ziet hoeveel je hartslag is gedaald en of je überhaupt op een goede hartslag zit. FitBit past de ademhalingsoefeningen aan op basis van je ademhaling voor je de oefening begint. Zo weet je zeker dat je goed tot rust komt!
FitBit Coach
De ingebouwde FitBit coach app laat workouts zien op je scherm (vergelijkbaar met de Nike+ trainings app) waardoor je direct aan de slag kunt zonder eerst de workout uit je hoofd te moeten leren. De app heeft door middel van bewegende afbeeldingen en trillingen precies aan wat je wanneer moet doen. Dit maakt een rondje rennen in het park ineens wel heel erg fun. Sluit je rondje hardlopen bijvoorbeeld af met een 10-minute ab-workout via je horloge!
Social
Aangezien de Ionic Fitbit’s eerste smart watch is, kun je makkelijk alle notificaties van je social mediakanalen via je smart watch ontvangen. Belletjes, What’s Appjes, Facebook berichten en meer. Ben je aan het bellen en krijg je een nieuw belletje binnen? Dan zie je via je Ionic wie je belt. Handig! Voor de muziekliefhebbers onder ons (wie is er eigenlijk geen muziekliefhebber?); je kunt maar liefst 300 songs kwijt op de FitBit Ionic en deze kopellen aan je wireless headphones.
Last but not least kun je je creditcard koppelen aan je FitBit waardoor je straks écht niets meer nodig hebt als je de deur uitgaat voor een run. Een swipe naar links en je hebt je koffie betaald! De vraag is alleen bij hoeveel banken in Nederland dit mogelijk zal zijn. Dit wordt nog even afwachten.
Apps
Je kunt zelf applicaties toevoegen aan je FitBit Ionic, net zoals op je telefoon. Goed om te weten is dat FitBit apps van derden ondersteunt en iedereen nieuwe applicaties mag toevoegen aan de database, waarna ze vervolgens eerst gereviewed zullen worden door FitBit zelf. Op deze manier wordt het maken van apps voor de FitBit Ionic extra gestimuleerd en is de kans groot dat er telkens meer toffe apps te vinden zijn voor ons, de gebruikers.
Battery
iPhone, vlogcamera, tablet, laptop, oordopjes… Onze collectie dagelijkse apparatuur wordt met de dag uitgebreider en het is dan ook fijn om je niet elke dag over de batterij te hoeven ontfermen. De FitBit Ionic gaat vier dagen mee op een volle lading. Dit is in vergelijking met de Apple Watch series 3 een bizarre vooruitgang (18 uur batterij), maar de Garmin VivoActive 3 wint met zijn 7 dagen batterijduur. Ik moet hier wel bij zeggen dat je als fanatiek sporter waarschijnlijk genoodzaakt bent om de FitBit Ionic om de dag op te laden, dit omdat hij met GPS aan op een volle lading slechts 9 uur meegaat. Ik merkte al snel dat na een dag flink sporten (zwemmen, hiken, tennissen) het horloge dat op 24% stond, binnen een paar uur leeg was. Dit is echter niet heel vreemd, normaal is immers ook om na X aantal sportsessies je hardloophorloge op te laden en dit zal dan ook hetzelfde zijn bij de Garmin VivoActive 3.
Al met al ben ik bijzonder positief over de FitBit Ionic en zal dit dan ook voorlopig mijn vaste casual- én trainingshorloge zijn.
De Ionic zal 349,95 euro kosten en light oktober 2017 in de winkels.

Hoi Carlijn, Ik heb zelf de Fitbit Ionic. De maat S is echt harstikke goed voor de dunne polsen, je kunt hem tot heel strak zetten want er zitten zestien gaatjes op om hem te verstellen.
Hopelijk heb je er wat aan!
Zelf heb ik momenteel ook een fitbit, maar die kan ik met kickboksen niet om ivm handschoenen en bandages… hij is te dik! Heb je toevallig getest of deze hier wel voor geschikt is? :)

Ik zit heel er te twijfelen of ik dit horloge zal kopen of niet.
Ik vroeg mij af of er ook hardloop schama’s zoals training voor een halve marathon op zitten. De bedoeling is om het horloge te gebruiken in de sportschool en ook om te trainen voor een halve marathon. Is dit horloge daarvoor geschikt of zou je een ander aanraden. Zit te twijfelen tussen de Garmin Forerunner, Tomtom spark en deze..
