Ben je –net als ik- niet als echte ranger geboren en is cultuursnuiven nooit je sterkste punt geweest, dan sta je vast ook niet te trappelen en te zingen wanneer je de zoveelste folder ziet raaskallen over ‘botanische tuinen’. Deze zogenaamde tuinen, ook wel ‘Los Jardines Bótanicos’ genoemd, vind je op verschillende plekken door Spanje en ook aan de Costa Brava zijn ze gewild. Is het desondanks nog nooit in je gekke brein opgekomen op ook maar één voetstap richting deze groene grond te zetten? Na het zien van deze foto’s denk je daar wel anders over. Ay vamos!

Hoewel je in deze tuinen hoogstwaarschijnlijk alleen al bloemen aantreft die je nog nooit in je havermouttutjes leven hebt gezien en de bomen en planten specialer zijn dan de boom die al 30 jaar in je achtertuin zichzelf staande weet te houden, hoef je niet per sé een bloemkenner te zijn om hier ook daadwerkelijk te kunnen genieten. De omgeving en de verschillende paden die je betreedt zijn zelfs zo speciaal dat je je waarschijnlijk voelt als Mowgli in de eerste Jungle Book film.
VALENTINO STAAT VOOR JE KLAAR
Een papagaai hoeft niet veel te doen om stoer over te komen, maar wanneer hij zichzelf ook nog eens bestempeld met de naam Valentino en zijn borst volzit met wit, vol borsthaar, weet je al helemaal dat ‘ie goed zit bij de chickies. Ook zijn groene, minder knappe vriend is maar al te graag van de partij. Ze regelen het overigens wel goed hoor, haviken dat het zijn. Voor 7 euro per foto poseren ze namelijk maar even al te graag met hun mooiste kant voor de camera.

HET IS SPANNEND
Ja. Echt waar. Botanische tuinen en bloempjes kunnen spannend zijn. Gevaarlijk zelfs. Toen ik mijn fotosessie namelijk achter de rug had en mijn weg langs de ‘sortida’ bordjes naar de uitgang waagde, keek ik de dood in de ogen. De man met de hamer had me bijna te pakken. Ik zeg bijna, omdat ik nét wist te ontglippen aan de palmboom die mijn leven wilde spiesen met zijn scherpe, zware tak. Zorgde voor een hoop ‘madre mía!’ en gekke geluiden, maar gelukkig ook een happy ‘I survived’ afterselfie met de boom die mij het leven zuur wilde maken.
INSTAGRAM-PROOF
Nog steeds niet overgehaald? Dan moeten alleen de foto’s die je kunt maken al een reden zijn je in de botanische tuinen te wanen. Groenliefhebber of niet, die foto’s tussen de palmbomen, bij de blauwe zee en onder je favoriete cactus zorgen zeker weten voor de nodige likes. Als dit niet elk Instagram-addict overhaalt, weet ik het ook niet meer.

Wauw mooie foto’s! Ik werk naast de Botanische Tuinen van Utrecht en wij mogen als medewerkers van het Universiteit Terrein daar gratis in. Soms loop ik er een rondje tijdens mijn pauze of ga ik ergens op een bankje zitten en mijn brood opeten. Het Universiteit Terrein is altijd super druk maar hier is het toch altijd rustig :)
