Hello Monday! Bibberend onder een fleecedekentje, uitgeput van een prachtige hike in de vrieskou, met een grote mok verse muntthee op de bank schrijf ik deze week mijn diary vanuit niets minder dan Schotland! Op donderdagochtend pakte ik het vliegtuig naar Edinburgh, Binnenkort komt er natuurlijk nog een Schots fotoverslag online, de lekkerste eettentjes en ‘hotspots’ en een artikel met de leukste ‘to-do’ or ‘must-see’ activiteiten hier! Hoewel het Nederlandse leven nog even ver weg voelt, was de afgelopen week een leuke en sportieve week. Kijk je mee?
Maandag, de dag na mijn ‘birthday weekend’. Ik had die week ervoor zo slecht gegeten dat ik weer helemaal gemotiveerd was om de gezonde draad op te pakken. Ik begon de dag met een kom havermout met peer en kaki. Heb jij wel eens kaki geprobeerd? Het is een zoete vrucht, heerlijk door bijvoorbeeld je ontbijtje! Tussen de middag nam ik nog één laatste lekkere punt van de slagroomtaart die was overgebleven van de dag ervoor. Het moest immers toch op, en weggooien is zonde … ;-)
Het taartje vormde de perfecte basis voor mijn run die middag. Ik had al een tijdje geen afstand langer dan 12 gelopen en het kriebelde weer. Zou ik het nog kunnen? Met 15 kilometer als doel voor ogen ging het beter dan verwacht en besloot ik er 5 kilometer achteraan te plakken. Even weer die 20 aantikken. Ik moet zeggen dat ik het vanaf kilometer 14 erg zwaar begon te krijgen, maar dan vooral mentaal. Blijft een uitdaging, dat hardlopen! Het grappige is dat ik altijd één rechte route loop waarna ik weer omdraai. Zo moét ik wel terug naar huis en heb ik niet de neiging eerder af te haken, ook al zou ik dat best willen. ‘Hoe harder je rent, hoe eerder je thuis bent’ is mijn grootste motivatie op de moeilijke stukjes. Ik tikte de 20 kilometer aan in 1 uur, 53 minuten en 55 seconden. Lekker!
Die avond kookte mijn moeder een heerlijk maaltijdje bestaande uit zoete aardappels uit de oven (bestrooid met kokosolie), gekruide sperzieboontjes en een spicy bean burger van Valessa. Die burger is echt mijn lievelingsburger!
Dinsdag was een iets minder exciting dag. Ik had last van mijn maag (misschien alle taartjes en drank?) en had moeite met opstaan. Die ochtend werkte ik aan school en haalde ik wat deadlines voor mijn werk, waarna ik een behoorlijke presentatie voor de boeg had. Ik was enorm zenuwachtig, maar dat bleek helemaal niet nodig te zijn. Rond een uur of 4 was ik klaar waarna ik een app’je kreeg van een vriend of ik zin had om wat te eten. Door alles zenuwen had ik inmiddels enorme honger gekregen en dus crashte we bij Bagels & Beans. Ik nam mijn favoriete combinatie: een ‘oatie bagel’ met oude kaas, pijnboompitten, augurk & honing mosterd saus.
Woensdag had ik een lange dag voor de boeg: om half 9 was ik aanwezig bij mijn Franse les tot 12 uur, waarna ik om 12 uur weer met de bus naar huis racete. Ik had die ochtend een sms gekregen dat mijn rijbewijs op te halen was bij het gemeente huis. YAY! Omdat ik die donderdag naar Schotland vertrok moest ik dit dus óf tussen mijn lunchpauze doen, of wachten tot volgende week. Wachten was ik echter too excited voor. Als de wiedeweerga ging ik terug naar Purmerend, haalde ik mijn rijbewijs op (en at ik twee pita kipschoarma voor lunch), om vervolgens weer terug naar Amsterdam te gaan voor een andere presentatie. Om half 5 was ik klaar waarna ik gelijk vanuit Bijlmer naar huis ging met de auto. Wat fijn om eindelijk te mogen rijden!!
Bij thuiskomst wilde ik nog even snel rennen voor het eten. Toen ik mijn schoenen aantrok begon het al te schemeren, tijdens het rennen werd het langzaam donker. Nog nooit heb ik zo’n mooi uitzicht gehad tijdens mijn ‘standaard’ ren rondje. WAUW! De lucht ging van blauw naar paars, van paars naar roze, naar oranje, om vervolgens te eindigen in het donker. Ik wist er een snelle run uit te persen. ‘S avonds pakte ik snel mijn koffer voor Schotland en ging ik vroeg mijn bed in. Ik sliep meteen.
Donderdagochtend 06:00 ging de wekker. MWEH, vroeg! Gelukkig realiseerde ik me snel dat het voor een goed doel was: het was tijd om te vertrekken! Ik at snel een ontbijtje waarna ik met de auto naar Schiphol reed met mijn vader. Wéér dat heerlijke gevoel dat ik eindelijk kan rijden, al is het nog wel even wennen in zo’n andere auto dan de lesauto.
Mijn vlucht was minder fijn. Om 09:20 zat ik in het vliegtuig en genoot ik van een stroopkoek met een kopje thee (KLM heeft altijd zo’n goede service!) waarna ik gelijk inslaap viel. Na een halfuur schrok ik opeens wakker door turbulentie, wat heel de vlucht bleef aanhouden. Ik blijf dat eng vinden. Toen we eindelijk het vliegveld van Edinburgh naderde en ons slechts enkele meters van de grond bevonden, roetstje het vliegtuig ineens weer met een rotvaart omhoog! Iedereen schrok zich wild, dat verwacht je niet. De piloot verschuldigde zich vervolgens, hij had een onstabiele landing aangenomen en het waaide te hard waardoor landen gevaarlijk zou zijn. Dat wilde ik nou net horen. Gelukkig belandden we na een omweg van 10 minuten veilig op de grond, en maakte mijn aankomst in Edinburgh alles goed.
Zaterdag kon je al een klein fotoverslag van de stad zelf online vinden, al heb ik inmiddels al geweldige dingen gedaan en gezien hier in Edinburgh. Ik heb zelfs gerend met één van mijn Schotsche Instagram volgers! De omgeving is adembenemend mooi en ik kan niet wachten jullie meer te laten zien van dit -naar mijn mening- nog veelte weinig gewaardeerde stadje. Meer foto’s en verslagen volgen!
